2025 Projects

May - 1,700 middle and high school students from around Genesee County participate in FRWC's GREEN Program. 270 students from six schools attended FRWC's Green Summit at Kettering University to present their water-quality testing results and learn about wildlife and the ecosystem of the river. 

2024 Projects

Oct./Nov. - FRWC, with volunteers from across Genesee County work to plant over 3,000 Trees purchased with a Forest to MI Faucets grant. 

May - Friends host Open House! Lease building at 630 W. Kearsley St. to serve as the new headquarters for the Friends and FRWC and KGCB program staff.

March 24 - The Friends of the Flint River Watershed adopt new strategic direction and priorities to support the success of the FRWC program of Genesee County Parks. These Priorities are: Protecting the Health of the Flint River, Promoting FRWC's Inclusive Educational and Recreational Opportunities, and Engaging Stakeholders to advance the shared mission of the Friends and FRWC programs. March 7 - National Fly Fishing Film tour makes a splash at FIM Capitol Theatre this Friday

Dec. 19 - FRWC awarded an Environmental Justice Impact Grant from EGLE to perform water and soil testing at Whaley Park to determine the cause and impact of repeated contamination. 

Dec. 17 -  Flint River Watershed Coalition joins Genesee County Parks System - MidMiNow

Nov. 20 - Genesee County Board of Commissioners approves the merger of the FRWC Program with the Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission and the Supporting Organization Agreement between the Parks Commission and the Friends of the Flint River Watershed, Inc.

About the Friends of The Flint River Watershed

The Friends of the Flint River Watershed, Inc. (Friends) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Flint River Watershed Coalition (FRWC), a program of Genesee County Parks and Recreation. Together, the Friends and FRWC work to protect, promote, and improve the Flint River ecosystem and its watershed to benefit plants, animals, individuals, businesses, and the community for all to enjoy and experience.
